Ramadan Activities for Kids: 10 Ideas for 2027
For home, the classroom and the mosque school — with free printables
Young children experience Ramadan through what they can see and do: the lantern on the door, the dates on the table, the crescent in the sky. The ten activities below give them a part in the month whether or not they are fasting yet, and most take ten minutes or less.
Ramadan 1448 at a glance
- Expected start: around 8 February 2027, after the new moon is sighted.
- Length: 29 or 30 days.
- Eid al-Fitr: expected around 9–10 March 2027.
- Print the calendar before the first night so the first lantern is coloured at the first iftar.
10 Ramadan activities for children
1. Colour one lantern each evening
A 30-lantern calendar on the wall, one coloured in at every iftar. Young children cannot feel a month passing; they can see a row of lanterns filling up.

Six everyday deeds — helping at home, a kind word, sharing, Quran, dua for someone, patience — and a star for each one done. Fill it in together at bedtime.

Putting out the dates, filling the water glasses, calling everyone when the adhan starts. A real job makes the evening theirs too, fasting or not.
4. Watch for the crescent
On the evening Ramadan is expected, go outside after sunset and look west for the thin new moon. Then look again at the end of the month, for Eid.
5. Learn eight Ramadan words
رمضان، صيام، إفطار، سحور، هلال، فانوس، تمر، عيد — one a few days, said at the moment it happens: سحور before dawn, إفطار at sunset.
Words to trace (PDF) →6. Read a Ramadan story
The Little Lantern follows Ahmad and the lantern on his door, and what he learns about sharing when guests arrive. Bilingual, with a free PDF.
The Little Lantern →7. Make a sharing box
A shoebox by the door where the family adds a coin, a tin of food or a toy to give away. At the end of the month, take it together to someone who needs it.
8. Colour the Ramadan pictures
A lantern, a mosque, a crescent, dates, a gift and a balloon, each with its Arabic name to trace — a quiet activity for the hour before iftar.

Paper lanterns, a string of stars, a crescent on the window. Let your child choose where each one goes; it becomes their Ramadan as much as yours.
10. Make Eid cards
In the last week, colour and fold an Eid Mubarak card for grandparents, a teacher or a neighbour, with the greeting traced in Arabic inside.
