انْتَهَى شَهْرُ رَمَضَانَ، وَجَاءَ صَبَاحُ الْعِيدِ.
intahaa shahru ramaDaana, wa jaa'a Sabaahu-l-'iid.
The month of Ramadan ended, and the morning of Eid arrived.
لَبِسَ سَالِمٌ ثَوْباً جَدِيداً وَحِذَاءً جَدِيداً.
labisa saalimun thawban jadiidan wa HiDhaa'an jadiid.
Salem put on new clothes and new shoes.
ذَهَبَ مَعَ أَبِيهِ إِلَى صَلَاةِ الْعِيدِ.
dhahaba ma'a abiihi ilaa Salaati-l-'iid.
He went with his father to the Eid prayer.
صَلَّى النَّاسُ مَعاً، ثُمَّ تَبَادَلُوا التَّهَانِي: عِيدٌ سَعِيد!
Sallaa-n-naasu ma'an, thumma tabaadalu-t-tahaaniiid: 'iidun saeed!
The people prayed together, then exchanged greetings: Happy Eid!
أَعْطَتْهُ الْجَدَّةُ هَدِيَّةً وَقَالَتْ: كُلُّ عَامٍ وَأَنْتَ بِخَيْر.
a'Tat-hu-l-jaddatu hadiyyatan wa qaalat: kullu 'aamin wa anta bi-khayr.
Grandma gave him a gift and said: may every year find you well.
لَعِبَ الْأَطْفَالُ فِي الشَّارِعِ بِالْبَالُونَاتِ الْمُلَوَّنَةِ.
la'iba-l-aTfaalu fi-sh-shaari'i bi-l-baaluunaati-l-mulawwana.
The children played in the street with colourful balloons.
وَزَّعَ الْأَهَالِي الحَلَوِيَّاتِ عَلَى الْأَطْفَالِ.
wazza'a-l-ahaalii-l-Halawiyyaati 'ala-l-aTfaal.
The grown-ups handed out sweets to the children.
عَادَ سَالِمٌ إِلَى الْبَيْتِ فَرِحاً، وَقَالَ: أَجْمَلُ يَوْمٍ!
'aada saalimun ila-l-bayti fariHan, wa qaala: ajmalu yawm!
Salem came home happy and said: what a wonderful day!
