The four shapes of Tha (ث)
Arabic letters change shape depending on where they sit in a word. The same sheet your child traces shows all four, so the changing shape is learned from day one instead of coming as a surprise later.
How to pronounce Tha
“thāʾ”. Place the tip of your tongue lightly between your top and bottom front teeth and blow air through the gap — exactly the 'th' in 'think' or 'three'. No voice buzz, just a soft hiss of breath over the tongue tip.
Identical to the voiceless 'th' in 'thumb'. Many non-Arabic accents replace it with 's' or 't' — resist that; the tongue must peek out between the teeth, not hide behind them.
The classic mix-up: Swapping th for 's' or 't' (saying 'salj' instead of 'thalj'). Have your child stick the tongue tip slightly out and feel the cold air on it — that physical cue prevents the substitution.
Words your child already knows with Tha
These are the example words printed on the worksheet — trace them together, then find more around the house.
One activity for this week
Stand in front of a mirror and check whether the tongue tip shows between the teeth on every 'th'. Children love watching their own mouth, and the mirror gives instant feedback.
